A travel guide to The Ghan luxury train

The Ghan is one of the best-known trains in the world, linking Adelaide in the south of Australia with Darwin in the north. On its route of almost 3,000 kilometres, the train crosses impressive landscapes – from green plains and the red Outback to tropical regions. With modern cabins and a focus on comfort, The Ghan is a first-class way to experience Australia by rail.

The Ghan terminal in Darwin

The Ghan is a luxury train that crosses Australia from north to south. The route covers 2,979 kilometres from Adelaide to Darwin and gives you a unique insight into the continent's varied landscapes.

The train offers various comfortable categories, from Gold and Platinum Service cabins to shared spaces such as lounges and dining cars. Regional food and wines reflecting Australia's diversity are served on board.

Besides the journey itself, Off Train Experiences are a central part of the trip. These stops give guests the chance to get to know places such as Alice Springs or Katherine Gorge more closely.
